Monthly Archives: November 2012

This holiday is not celebrated here by most other than the expats.  Yesterday was no exception, normal day as usual.  For us a little football and then to a local restaurant  for a little turkey.  You can buy butterball turkeys here for only $70 if you want, which also involves traveling a great distance to get them too!!!  None the less a good time was had by all.

On the way to the beach in the afternoon I ran into a native trying to cross the road a head of us.  It turned out to be a Central American Bushmaster which is probably the most deadly snake in Costa Rica.  It stretched halfway across the road and still could not see all of it. If you get bitten by one of these and you don’t have the anti venom in your back pocket chances are you will not survive.  Very few have and those that have wish they hadn’t.

So needless to say I am thankful not having to deal with something like that and so are the dogs.  Pura Vida!!!

Sad day for the little guy

The other day while sitting in our living room I happened to see a sad thing happen.  The little Green Basilisk that we have watched grow up in our big tree was carried off by a Broad Tail Hawk.  The bird had it firmly gripped in its mouth as it flew up into the trees to enjoy its catch.  He/She will be sorely missed, it provided many moments of entertainment.

The victim.

the culprit

The culprit.

Rest in pieces poor little guy.  The rainforest has its good and not so good moments!!!  Pura vida.

November to Remember

Closing in on the end of another year, time sure does fly faster the older you get.  Things here in Puerto have been mixed, a lot of little crimes and some big ones too.  Tourists are down so there is desperation with some of the thieves.   Although the police try there best and have arrested a number of these bad apples, ones still needs to be alert.

It has been really dry here of late, very little rain and the plants are beginning to wilt a bit because of it.  We are hoping it will pick up a bit this month, but that is anyone’s guess, weather here is predicted at the moment, not the future!!!

In a few days a the results of the election will be in, fingers are crossed that the American people see who the right person is for this job and put all of this racial crap away. It is the 21st century by the way, not the 17th!

I saw this amazing blue fish the other day while snorkeling, the spots on this fish glow.  There were some real interesting things out there to see, just need to spend more time in the water when it gets nice!!

Well live moves slowly here, pura vida.
